Vol. 8 (2024): Discourse analysis beyond big data (Diskurs – interdisziplinär 11)
The methodological analysis of discourse as social conversation requires an in-depth consideration of communicative dynamics and discursive practices as social facts. In the macro-social contexts of society(ies), it makes sense to think of their linguistic data equivalent on a linguistic macro-level. The methodological principle of reflecting society in large data compilations is reflected in the common methods of corpus-oriented discourse analysis and has become established. However, such an understanding leads to the de-individualization, de-contextualization and situational disengagement of language analysis. Newer approaches, such as ethnographic discourse linguistics or positioning analysis, on the other hand, emphasize the individual and situational dimensions of discourse. This volume therefore contains discourse analyses that go beyond big data and corpora to emphasize the relevance of multi-formal data and hermeneutic approaches.
